Rheumatoid arthritis is called AamaVata in Ayurveda. It is a chronic inflammatory auto immune disorder in which one’s immune system mistakenly attacks own bodytissues. It can effect more than just joints, the condition can damage a wide variety of body systems, including the skin, eyes, lungs, heart and blood vessels. Over time, rheumatoid arthritis can cause joints to deform and shift out of place. RA affects the lining of the joints, causing painful swelling that can eventually result in bone erosion and joint deformity.
Rheumatoid arthritis can affect many non joint structures, including : skin, eyes, lungs, heart, kidneys, nerve tissue, bone marrow, blood vessels In Ayurveda , amavata is caused due to increase in tri dosha, i.evata, pitta and kapha because of which there is a derangement of agni ( the digestive fire) and production of amadosha which causes amavata or Rheumatoid arthritis.
